I know this is an unusual post for this community, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm currently stage managing my school production, and with graduation fast approaching I find myself at a crossroads. I'm very tempted to lead the theater life, if not for the horrible pay! Anyways what I was wondering is if anyone has any tips for me, during this production and possibly further on down the road. My hope is that if I do a good job with this production, I may be offered an apprenticeship with this theater (I have a long history of past work with them). I'm just not entirely sure how to organize and prepare this show, seeing as it's my first time stage managing. Any help?

I think the best thing you could do for yourself is talk to your director. Tell him/her "I want to do this show like a professional SM, like you have hired me and are expecting professional work. Will you help me and where can I start?" Ask to be taught how to run the show like a pro(the professionals had help getting to where they are now!) Obviously you may need some coaching but when they expect more and the lines of communication are open, everyone benifits!
